Welcome to
the
Dallas Paleontological Society
25th
Years
The Dallas Gem and Mineral Show
is this weekend: Saturday, November 21,
10-6 and Sunday, November 22, 10-5.
Historically, this show accounted for a
lot of early charter memberships.
We really need to step up and do shows.
The Society is losing out on a lot of
income and new members by not
participating in shows. I will work on
Sunday from opening until 2 PM. We need
enough other members to take care of
Saturday and from 2 to 5 PM, the last
three hours, on Sunday. Additionally,
we need someone to set either Friday
sometime during the day or in the
evening OR on Saturday morning
before the show starts. We also need
someone to take down the show on
Sunday. To volunteer, (gets you in
free) contact Winston Culpepper at vp@dallaspaleo.org.
DECEMBER MEETING
Our next General Meetings
are held on the second Wednesday of every
month. The next General Meeting will be on
12-9-2009, 7:30 pm at Brookhaven
Community College, Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute (EMGI). Brookhaven is located at 3939 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch,
(Dallas) Texas 75244.
December
meeting will be our Annual Auction. Auction
items are still needed. Please contact
Lee
Higginbotham. Lee Higginbotham higgintex@sbcglobal.net cell 214-207-8058.
JANUARY MEETING
Laurie Jasinski, author of "Dinosaur
Highway: A History of Dinosaur Valley State
Park" is lined up for the January meeting.
She is not a paleontologist, but more of a
historian. She has put together a slide
show of historic photographs from the early
days of R. T. Byrd's early excavations, and
so on. Plus she seems to be pretty much up
to date on current research there, although
she does not pretend to be a dinosaur
expert.
Celebrate
our 25th anniversary
by wearing one of the
commemorative T-shirts. A new design "Glen
Rose Confrontation"
has been added
that is perfect and just in time for
FOSSILMANIA. "Big Bend Mosasaur"
will soon be available. Shirts available at
Fossilmania or through the
DPS Store. Order one for everyone in
your family.
Mineral
Wells Fossil Site: It is time to turn
those pledges into donations. It is not open
to the public yet. Your donations are need
to make the necessary improvements for
public use. To donate go to the
Mineral Wells Fossil Site page.

the Society can be found in
